Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation

What is Vestibular rehabilitation?
Vestibular rehabilitation is a specific form of assessment and treatment involving your balance system. Your balance system consists of your vestibular system, visual system, and proprioceptors. These three systems work together to help us maintain our balance. When one of these systems is not working optimally, it can cause symptoms of dizziness, poor balance, or spinning (vertigo), to name a few.

What can I expect?
Vestibular rehabilitation consists of an initial assessment to get a better understanding of your current symptoms, previous episodes (if applicable), and family history; an objective assessment that tests all of your balance systems; and a treatment plan including education surrounding our findings, educational resources, and an exercise program.

The specific treatment and exercises are dependent on our findings. Your therapist will work within your symptoms, however there is the potential you may be dizzy following your assessment, so we recommend you have someone drive you home from your appointment.

Please bring any information you have, including medications, and specialists you may have seen for current or previous episodes.
